Heavy rain causes flooding; cars break-down near Marina Cove

Heavy rain in Sai Kung area last night caused localised flooding, trapping some cars which had to be abandoned. Between about 2:00 and 3:10 am, the Observatory recorded more than 70 mm of rainfall and issued a yellow rainstorm warning.

Hiram’s Highway was flooded near Marine Cove and some cars became trapped. Police managed to rescue the driver and occupants on a BMW which became trapped in about a foot of water. They pushed the car out of the flooded area so the occupants could get out safely. No one was injured in the incident.
