Anti-smuggling operation seizes 590 kilograms of dried shark fins in Ah Kung Wan, Sai Kung; 10 men escape by speedboat

Police have suspected that someone was carrying out smuggling activities in the area of Ah Kung Wan, Sai Kung recently. After in-depth investigation and intelligence analysis, officers of the Marine Police Regional Task Force joined forces with the Marine Police Small Boat Division, Marine Police East Division and Customs yesterday evening (2/12). The members of the Maritime Joint Task Force regularly conduct joint anti-smuggling operations in the Sai Kung area.

During the operation, officers discovered a suspicious speedboat without its navigation lights on, approaching the shore opposite No. 210 Tai Mong Tsai Road. At the same time, 10 men were also moving goods from a private car to the suspicious speedboat on the shore.

The haul has a market value of around $1.02 million

The officers immediately took action, and the 10 suspicious men jumped on the speedboat and fled towards Port Shelter at high speed. Marine police officers then launched a pursuit, but the speedboat eventually fled the waters east of Hong Kong and headed towards the mainland.

During the operation, officers seized about 590 kilograms of suspected dried shark fins at the shore, with a total market value of about $1.02 million. The case is being investigated by customs officers and no one has been arrested yet.
