East Kowloon police units set up roadblocks on Hiram’s Highway near Kam Kiu around 8:00 pm last night (29/12). At about 8:55 pm, a car attempted to drive through the roadblock. After the officers stopped the car, the male driver abandoned it and fled. He was eventually caught and arrested.
Police officers found suspected cocaine, two mobile phones and tens of thousands of dollars in cash in the car. It is understood that the man involved is about 34 years old, and the car was rented by the suspect.
The police stated that at 8:55 pm officers from the Kowloon East Region who had set up roadblocks on Hiram’s Highway to intercept suspicious vehicles, discovered that a car was being driven suspiciously and stopped it to investigate.
After preliminary investigation, officers seized a package of suspected cocaine weighing approximately 26 grams in the car, with a street value of approximately $31,500. The arrested man was suspected of “possession of drugs”, “driving while licence suspended” and “driving without third-party insurance”. He is currently detained for investigation and the case has been handed over to the Wong Tai Sin Police District Criminal Investigation Team for follow-up.
