Water-ski speedboat collides with sampan in Sai Kung; one dead, three arrested

Around 10:00 am this morning (26/2) a speedboat collided with a sampan on the sea off Tsam Chuk Wan, Sai Kung. Two men, who took a sampan to go fishing, were injured in the crash, one fatally.

Marine police arrived at the scene for search and rescue, rescued the two men and sent them to the marine police base in Sai Kung. Unfortunately, one of the men was confirmed dead; the other unconscious man was transferred to Eastern Hospital by Government Flying Service helicopter for emergency treatment.

The speedboat was reported to be driving at high speed towing a water skier when the accident happened. The police arrested the three water skiers on the speedboat for “endangering the safety of others at sea.”

The small fishing boat was badly damaged

The two boats suspected of being involved in the case were moored at the Marine Police Base in Sai Kung. The sampan was about 10 feet long and the stern was severely damaged with visible cracks. The speedboat suspected of being involved in the case was also moored at the base. Police are investigating the incident.
