Around 5:00 pm yesterday (4/1), a woman in her twenties disappeared while swimming at a beach near Sharp Island, Sai Kung. A younger friend who was travelling with her suspected that she had drowned and called the police. Rescue workers arrived at the scene and found the female victim about 20 to 30 metres away from the beach. However, she was unconscious. She was taken by the Marine Police to the Marine Police Base opposite Sai Kung, and then sent by ambulance to Tseung Kwan O Hospital for treatment.
According to media, the victim is a mainland woman. She met a younger friend to go swimming off Sharp Island. At first, the two of them swam in the shallow water without any problem. Later, the friend discovered that the victim was missing and suspected that she had strayed into the deep water and drowned, so she shouted for help. The beachgoers on the island immediately called the emergency hotline.
Emergency services quickly arrived at the scene and located the victim, who was found unconscious and without a pulse. She was transported by marine police to the nearby Sai Kung Marine Police Base, before being transferred to Tseung Kwan O Hospital.
The victim’s young friend suffered bruised feet, and after preliminary treatment, did not need to be sent to hospital.
