Sky Li

Sai Kung district councillor Sky Li Tin-chi attended Kwun Tong Magistrates’ Courts this morning (20/1) after being arrested on suspension for failing to comply with the notice of hearing.

Li admitted that he failed to complete the property tax return form for 2021 and 2022 before the deadline. The magistrate sentenced the defendant to a fine of $1,000, which was deducted from the bail.

The court previously issued a summons to Li, for failing to submit his tax return on time. Li did not attend court for the original hearing, leading to his arrest by appointment on 8 January. He was granted bail and continued to carry out his duties at the District Council.

The Home Affairs Department stated that the government places great importance on the character and integrity of district councillors and that it would closely monitor the development of the case and consider further proceedings based on the court’s ruling and relevant regulations.

According to the District Councils Ordinance, a district council member will lose their eligibility if sentenced to more than three months in prison.
