Pupils at Sai Kung Central Lee Siu Yam Memorial School are learning to pilot drones around an obstacle course. It’s called “The Inter-School Drone Challenge” organised by The Hong Kong Association for Computer Education, Federation of Shenzhen Hong Kong Association, Hong Kong Federation of Education Workers, Hong Kong STEM Education Alliance, where the youngsters guide drones through hoops and barrels.
The drone competition was started in 2016 and last year nearly 170 primary and secondary schools competed.
Lee Siu Yam School was created 30 years ago, when five village schools were merged. The school badge shows a camel and a seagull, the first representing perseverance and courage and the latter symbolising freedom and agility. Thousands of Sai Kung kids have been well grounded for life at the Lee Siu Yam primary school. Sai Kung’s 25-year district council chairman Ng Sze-fuk heads the management committee.
