Readers of Oriental Daily News alerted the newspaper that at the “smart” garbage collection station on Kam Shue Road, Clear Water Bay Road, Sai Kung, had been infested by a group of wild boars in the early mornings for the past week and they have been scavenging for food. The ground surrounding the collection station is full of garbage, and is affecting environmental sanitation.
Oriental Daily reporters arrived at the scene in the early morning today (19/1) and found five wild boars foraging for food, scattering garbage everywhere on the road. The reporter found that the doors of the collection station were locked, and because the station was stuffed with garbage bags, the three automatic doors for the various sections could not be closed, and the garbage bags were exposed. It is suspected that the wild boars climbed up and pulled the garbage bags out to the ground to get at the food inside. The wild boar family fled when the reporters appeared.
Readers contacted the paper to point out that later in the morning, they saw cleaning workers arriving at the collection station to clear away the garbage. None of the three section doors could close automatically. They suspected a malfunction and hoped that relevant government departments would follow up.
