A man fishing in Ung Kong Wan, Sai Kung, fell into a coma after suffering heatstroke; rushed to hospital by helicopter but unfortunately died

Around 5:00 pm yesterday afternoon (26/7) emergency services received a report that a 54-year-old man was unconscious on a small yacht about 400 metres away from Ung Kong Chau, Sai Kung. The Government Flying Service helicopter was called to the scene and hoisted the man to Eastern Hospital for emergency treatment, but he eventually died.

The Hong Kong Observatory had issued a hot weather warning and emergency services received a number of calls from people feeling unwell during outdoor activities, many suspected of heat stroke, and having to be sent to hospital for treatment.

In this incident, police received a report from a woman that her husband, suddenly lost consciousness while fishing on a yacht near Ung Kong Chau. It is understood that the victim, his wife and brother went fishing on a small yacht from Pak Sha Wong Pier at around 2:00 pm. During the trip, he was suspected to have suffered from heatstroke and fell unconscious on the way to the hospital. However, the exact actual cause of death will be determined by an autopsy.
