
At 7:54 am this morning (15/8), a resident spotted a man floating in the waters off the Sai Kung Public Pier and alerted the police. Firefighters and other rescuers arrived at the scene and rescued the man, but he was pronounced dead. The body was subsequently sent to the Marine Police Base across from Sai Kung for further investigation.
Police received a report on Tuesday evening from an employee of a boat rental company in Sha Ha, stating that a customer had not returned the canoe on time and suspected that he was missing.
The missing man, a US passport holder, was reportedly about 38 years old, about 1.7 metres tall, thin, wearing dark clothes, a red life jacket and sneakers, and carrying a backpack.
Police, Fire Services Department, Marine Department and GFS personnel searched the area but found nothing.
