Government workers are cutting down trees on the waterfront, according to Sai Kung Councillor Christine Fong. The trees are leucaena leucocephala (silver acacia) which the government says are undesirable and may collapse. It is a highly invasive species that grows quickly and crowds out native vegetation.

Ms Fong said the Civil Engineering Department has removed three trees and marked about 30 others for repair work. The trees are sited from WM Hotel around to Tsui Tong Rd.
CEDD stated that depending on the weather, the removal/repair work is expected to take two to three days to complete. CEDD will continue to monitor the condition of the waterfront trees for follow-up work.
