
The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) indicated that the decomposing carcass of a baleen whale that washed up on the beach at Ham Tin Wan, Sai Kung, yesterday morning would be removed from the beach today (30/1). The carcass is approximately 11 metres long. Due to severe decomposition, further autopsy is not possible to determine the cause of death. The AFCD stated that staff are working to dispose of the carcass and clean up the site with completion expected today .
It is estimated that he has been dead for some time and drifted away with the water.
The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) stated that upon receiving the report, it immediately dispatched personnel from Ocean Park and the Ocean Park Conservation Foundation to the scene for investigation. Based on the assessment of the decomposition of the dead whale carcass, it is estimated that it had been dead for some time and is believed to have drifted to the area from the open sea.
