Around 2:00pm yesterday (9/9) a group of 11 people reportedly encountered a swarm of bees near Tiger Rock in Pak Sha O. Two men were stung, but both remained conscious and were taken to Tseung Kwan O Hospital by ambulance.
Local media understand that the Caritas Wong Yiu Nam Centre was conducting a Level 1 Mountaineering Training Certificate course hike. The course was led by a qualified registered mountaineering instructor and two centre staff members, with eight participants.
They departed from Hau Tong Kai at approximately 10:30 am, intending to reach Chung Sha Teng; however, while passing Pak Sha O near Tiger Rock, someone apparently accidentally bumped into a beehive. A 16-year-old boy was stung on all four limbs; a 34 -year-old man was stung on the head. Police are treating the case as a “search and rescue operation for hikers.”
Caritas Hong Kong responded to inquiries from the media, stating that one of the injured individuals required hospitalsation for observation and was in stable condition.
The Caritas Wong Yiu Nam Centre is a voluntary residential drug treatment and rehabilitation facility located on Hang Hau Road in Sai Kung. It provides in-patient counselling, detoxification, and rehabilitation for young male substance abusers.
