Two swimming incidents on Sai Kung beaches today, one fatal

Two drowning incidents occurred at Sai Kung beaches today (12/9).

Around 10:00 am this morning police received a report that a female swimmer was suspected of drowning about 5 metres off Clear Water Bay Beach, Sai Kung. When officers arrived, the 82-year-old woman had already been rescued by lifeguards but was unconscious. She was immediately taken to Tseung Kwan O Hospital by ambulance, but unfortunately passed away at 11:17 am. The cause of death will be determined after an autopsy.

Reports indicate that the woman is suspected of having a heart condition. Police subsequently contacted her family to follow up at the hospital.

Around 3:00 pm this afternoon a woman in her 30s got into difficulties at Hap Mun Wan Beach, Sai Kung. Rescuers arrived at the scene and transported the woman to the Marine Police Base. She was conscious and was subsequently taken by ambulance to Tseung Kwan O Hospital for treatment. The cause of the incident is still under investigation.
