As Remembrance Day approaches business owners invited to display poppies

Owners of restaurants, bars and shops are encouraged to set up boxes of poppies on their counters as we head towards Remembrance Day. They can write to poppy-officer@rbl.hk and poppy boxes will be delivered to them.

The Cenotaph in Central, Hong Kong

The Royal British League supports our few remaining war veterans, not just the British, but all nationalities. On Remembrance Day, Sunday 8 November ,everyone is invited to dress in their finest suits or dresses,  wearing their medals if they have some, at the Central Cenotaph at 11:00 am. This event always attracts a large number of people solemnly paying their respects: “At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will  remember them.”

The War Memorial on Tai Mong Tsai Road, Sai Kung

An appropriate place to show your respect is Sai Kung’s Memorial Monument to the Martyrs of World War II. It’s on Tai Mong Tsai Rd as you head towards the country park. The structure, built in 1989, is a 60ft rifle-shaped monument symbolising anti-Japanese forces, surrounded by railings with torch sculptures and stone lions. Inscriptions detail the guerilla resistance against the Japanese (SAI KUNG BUZZ regrets that there is no English on this splendid memorial so non-Chinese readers can fully appreciate it.)
