Brindy Mason shows off her golf medals in Bangkok

Sai Kung’s finest female fighter has won gold  again. Brindy Mason triumphed at the AFG Brazilian ju-jitsu tournament in Bangkok which attracted 800 fighters. Yesterday (25/10) Brindy competed in Gi matches in which participants wear kimono-style jackets and can grab the opponent’s clothing, sweep them off balance, then choke them — which Brindy specialises in. Our girl, 23, won all her matches taking gold twice.

The day before, Brindy, who used to live in Sai Kung with dad Vaughan, competed in the No-Gi class winning two of her three fights earning a bronze medal. In No-Gi fighters wear form-fitting shirts and shorts, are not allowed to grab clothing and attack opponents at vulnerable points on their bodies. No-Gi fights are faster than Gi ones.

The Bangkok tournament, one of the biggest on the international ju-jitsu calendar, was held last weekend at the Imperial World Samrong Convention Hall in Samut Prakan, Bangkok.

SAI KUNG BUZZ understands from dad Vaughan, Brindy will compete soon in an Mixed Martial Arts fight under the auspices of NAIZA, based in Kazakhstan. Her next fight is scheduled for December or January, but not yet confirmed, Vaughan said.
