On 29 September BUZZ published a dashcam video that had been circulated online, showing that at around 9:00 pm on 27 September, a white seven-seater car was driving on Clear Water Bay Road against the flow of traffic, and when on a bend near Ta Kwu Ling New Village, Sai Kung, almost collided head-on with the car with the camera. Fortunately, the car swerved to the left in time to avoid an accident.
There has been a new development in the case. Police stated yesterday (9/10) that they had noted the online video and after an in-depth investigation, officers from the Traffic Investigation Team of the East Kowloon Regional Traffic Department took a 41-year-old male driver from mainland China holding a two-way permit back to the police station that afternoon on suspicion of “dangerous driving.” He will be issued a ticket later.
The video shows that a car was travelling downhill on the right lane of Clear Water Bay Road towards Sai Kung, while another private car was travelling on the left lane. When they reached a right bend opposite Ta Kwu Ling New Village, a white seven-seater suddenly appeared travelling in the opposite lane with no sign of braking. Just as a head-on collision was imminent, the driver immediately swerved left, successfully passing safely between the car in the left lane and the oncoming seven-seater. The two cars and a following motorcycle stopped for several seconds before resuming normal traffic.
Because the headlights of the seven-seater car were obstructing the view, the dashcam was unable to capture the licence plate. The camera owner exclaimed in the post, “I almost died on Earth by a second, thankfully I didn’t get into trouble with my neighbour.” He also posted the video and asked, “Did any other drivers capture the white seven-seater car going against traffic or its license plate? I’d like to request the car camera footage.”
