A 43-year-old man is in serious condition after he crashed into a tree while paragliding in Sai Kung.
The man, surnamed Chan, lost control of his glider in gale force winds and hit a tree where he was trapped, Apple Daily reports.
Chan’s friends rescued him before firemen and staff from the Government Flying Services arrived.
He was rushed to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital with injuries to his hand, back and neck, according to Headline Daily.
Chan is an avid paragliding fan with many years of experience.
A paraglider must obtain a licence from the Civil Aviation Department. There are nine designated areas for such sport activity including Sai Kung, Shek O and South Lantau.
Paragliding was invented by the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration as a vehicle for space capsule recovery and was later picked up as a sport.
NOTE: Approached by SAI KUNG BUZZ, a spokesman for the Hong Kong Paragliding Association declined to comment on the accident.
