A Remembrance Day service 100 years after the end of The Great War will be held in Man Yee Square on 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. This ceremony hosted by Resurrection Church will be a first, Rev. Chris Ponniah said. He hopes it will be an annual event and is planning one for ANZAC Day next year too. Sai Keng resident Graham Hamilton is arranging an orchestra to perform during the service, beginning at 10.30 am and lasting an hour. Dress respectfully and wear a poppy.
The previous day there will be a screening at Resurrection Church of the movie “Christmas at Royal Hotel”, written and directed by Craig McCourry. This film tells the story of the individuals caught up in the Japanese invasion of Hong Kong during World War II. Craig and local historian Bill Lake will speak at a Q&A session after the movie, which starts at 7:00 pm. Refreshments will be served. Entry is free, but attendees will be invited to donate to the Hong Kong Ex-Serviceman’s Assn. The association has 1400 members in Hong Kong, five of whom are veterans who fought the Japanese.
