The after-effects of Super-Typhoon Mangkhut are still being sorted out, so many months later. At the recent District Facilities Management Committee of Sai Kung District Council, Councillor Philip Li Ka Leung requested that money be allocated for repair of the helipad at Sai Wan, in the Country Park, which is still out of action since the typhoon.
As Cllr. Li explained, the area attracts an increasing number of visitors, and there is only a narrow pedestrian track connecting it to the main road some kilometres away. Currently any rescue helicopter has to land on the beach, or some distance away. This has hampered rescue efforts. The Maclehose Trail also runs nearby and there are regular accidents along its route through the Country Park.
The Council agreed to proceed with the request as soon as possible after estimation of the cost of restoration is agreed.
