“Enoch’s Muse”, written by Sai Kung author Sergio Monteiro, is based around the life of Enoch (great grandfather of biblical Noah) Enoch is the supposed author of the Book of Enoch which was one of the books considered for but excluded from inclusion in the collection of stories that would become bible at the council of Nicaea in 325. “Enoch’s Muse” takes Enochian lore combined with historical research and treats Enoch as the hero of a grand adventure spanning five thousand years. The book was one of the finalists in the 2017 Proverse Prize, and was published in November 2018.
Sergio came to Hong Kong when his father was transferred here in 1990. He graduated from Sha Tin College in 1996. After working a few years as a personal trainer, he left in in1999 to attend university in Canada. His travels after university then brought him back to China in 2005 and Hong Kong in 2008. He currently works in education.
Sergio was bitten with the writing bug early and has always been fascinated with ancient history. He started out writing poetry in his teens. He moved on to short stories in his twenties and now has two novels published. The research for the new book took a year before he wrote one word.
The first novel, “Other American Dreams” was a police procedural set in West Africa and dealt with the migrant crisis currently affecting Europe. The book was met with positive reviews. Sergio is currently working on the outline for a third novel that will be set in ancient Rome.
