Just before Chinese New Year some Form 1 students from Cheng Chek Chee Secondary School of Sai Kung and Hang Hau District helped Sai Kung Stray Friends Foundation (SKSFF) with a fundraising activity in Causeway Bay.

Supported by NET teachers Supriti and Christine, the students were able to understand the importance of raising funds for dogs in need. This meaningful campaign helped the local secondary school students enhance their conversational skills, boost confidence with public speaking, and gain knowledge on one of the social issues, which is ‘Being A Responsible Pet-owner’.

The students had a surprise visit from the Head of Department, Ms. Amanda Pang, as they showed their love and contribution towards strays and the organisation, with a hope of a better world for four-legged best friends.   SKSFF would like to thank the Head of Department for coming out to show support and giving encouragement, but also to Supriti, who, for over a year now, has utilised SKSFF through a variety of activities to improve the standard of English among students by getting them involved in the local garage sale at Clear Water Bay, visiting the kennels, and asking the students beforehand for a small contribution to sponsor a dog and then meet the dog at the kennel.

Supriti recently gained donations for 10 dog treat boxes from colleagues at work and she  is now planning to  get the students involved with other creative fundraiser ideas. This is an example of how local schools can help, but also benefit from, having interaction with charities, and SKSFF hope that funds can be provided through corporations and individuals  to support the employment of a part-time education assistant at the kennel for group visits.  If anyone would like to volunteer with the groups, or just help out at the kennel, email saikungstrayfriendshk@gmail.com or contact Narelle 9199 2340.

Sai Kung Stray Friends is home to 100+ stray and abandoned dogs waiting for adoption as well as providing meals on wheels and medical care for dogs living on the street in the nearby area. (Any donations are tax deductible).
