Following the success of the anti-extradition march through Kowloon on 7 July, similar events are being planned for the following Sundays in July. Working through the same online social media platforms as used during the previous marches, disparate groups of protesters are coming together to organise marches in different parts of Hong Kong.
One Facebook based group, Sha Tin Commons (沙田一隅), has announced that is preparing a march through the centre of Sha Tin on 14 July, and that they had already applied for a no-objection notice to the police. The exact route is still being discussed.
In addition, in the Sai Kung District, the District Government Alliance (區政聯盟) and the Tseung Kwan O People’s Livelihood Concern Group (將軍澳民生關注組也) are planning a march on 21 July. According to one Group member the planned parade route will also enter the Tseung Kwan O Industrial Estate, including the area occupied by the studios of TV media. Many protesters have expressed anger at what they consider the biased nature of how the media has reported the previous marches, with TVB being the prime focus of that dissatisfaction – the station is usually referred to as CCTVB by many in the protest movement.
The various groups involved with the two planned marches have also expressed their dissatisfaction with the lack of support from many district councillors. The disparate groups plan to have protest marches in each one of Hong Kong’s 18 districts – with Sai Kung slated for 28 July.
