The male waiter accused of attacking a mainland woman close to Lakeside Gardens, Sai Kung in 2018 pleaded guilty to intentional wounding and was sentenced to 3 years, 1 month and 23 days in the District Court today (4/5). The judge pointed out that this was a brutal case of wounding. The defendant continued to attack after the victim fell to the ground. His brutal behaviour left the victim with scars and psychological shadows.
The judge noted that considering that the defendant was young and affected by alcohol at the time of the case, the starting point of the sentencing was initially set at 4 years and 9 months. The defendant confessed voluntarily, and the judge granted a one-third penalty for the sentence. In addition, the defendant earlier deposited $20,000 in court. The victim’s compensation also showed his remorse, and another one week ’s sentence was deducted, but the judge emphasised that this does not mean that anyone can escape punishment with money, and that the victim can still seek compensation from the defendant through civil channels.
