An explosion was heard at West Dam, High Island Reservoir early this morning. Four people were arrested by the police for explosive and drug possession.
Around 3:00 am this morning (11/6) police officers patrolling the West Dam area of High Island Reservoir heard an explosion, and saw flames and smoke from the scene. When they investigated they found four men, including teenagers, acting suspiciously. There were traces of gunpowder and scorch marks on the dam wall. It was thought that someone had fired a signal flare, and officers from the Explosives Disposal Division were called to search.
The police officers searched the men and seized a controlled substance, thought to be Viagra, on one of them. The four were taken into custody for investigation. At 10:00 am this morning, a large number of police officers went to the scene to search for evidence.
