Pandemic affects strays – urgent call for donations

sksff 1Sai Kung Stray Friends monthly shelter rental of $55,000 was increased to $57,000 last year and Narelle Pamuk, the Founder, told BUZZ that what was difficult in normal times,  with Covid-19, is now just impossible for them to honour.

After receiving recent phone reminder messages from the Landlord‘s representative, it was agreed for an onsite meeting. The Landlord, accompanied by three others, came to the shelter for the purpose of seeking payment of the outstanding rental, which has now reached $124,000.  During the pandemic lockdown SKSFF has been unable to hold events or obtain Government hawking licences to sell donated goods, its main source of income. The impact on the organisations capacity to raise survival Funds has been devastating.

Narelle says “We have tried to make reduced rental payments in good faith to keep our good standing with the landlord. The conclusion to the conversation was that we MUST pay the outstanding and future rental, without any reduction, the only flexibility being acceptance of late payment!”

Their first priority is to feed the approximately 130 kennel and stray dogs each day. Dry food costs is $19,845 monthly plus additional costs for chicken and canned food.

Narelle says everyone has been affected by this pandemic and its a hard time to be appealing for donations but they need a boost of funds urgently.
