Man killed by falling rock; nine rescued from sinking boat

Two accidents occurred with tourists in the Sai Kung area this morning, one where a 71-year-old man was hit by a falling rock, the other where nine people were rescued from a sinking boat.

Around 10:00 am this morning (24/9), the police received a report stating that a man hiking in Yung Shue O, Sai Kung was hit by a falling rock, around 1m x 1 m in size, while walking near the stream. He fell into a coma and also broke his leg. His three colleagues called the police. Government Flying Service rescued the victim, and took him to Eastern District Hospital where he later died.

Also this morning around 11:00 am, a group of nine divers took a boat to the east of the Ninepin Islands. They anchored about 500 metres away from the lighthouse for diving. Four people dived and the remaining five stayed on the boat.

Sai Kung Marine Police base

A sudden storm blew up and it is thought that the boat turned over, and the five people on the boat fell into the sea. The boat owner was able to call the police who rescued all nine people. It is understood that no one was injured in the incident. The rescue vessel took them to the Saigon Marine Police Base for a medical check up.
