Car ends up in river near Tai Chung Hau; driver flees the scene

Early this morning (12/10) a car being driven along Hiram’s Highway ended up in the river that runs through Tai Chung Hau, Sai Kung.

6:00 am this morning, emergency services received a report saying that a private car had an accident on Hiram’s Highway near Tai Chung Hau Road and that it had rolled over and fallen into the river. Firefighters arrived on the scene and waded into the river to find the Toyota private car immersed in water up to the top of the car wheels.

The roof was buckled, presumably when it rolled over, the sunroof was broken, and the front and body were also damaged; the car keys were still into the ignition.

However, there was no one in the car, and the driver could not be found. There were also no injured people in the nearby area. The police are investigating the incident.

According to reports, it was initially suspected that the private car lost control and crashed into the road railings, and then crashed down a slope about 7 metres. It is assumed that the driver fled the scene. Police are tracing the car owner for questioning.
