Unsightly slope stabilisation at Emerald Bay draws fire from reader

A reader has complained to HONG KONG BUZZ about unsightly shotcreting of a slope at the Victory Recreation Club, providing photos.

“‘Emerald Bay could well be considered the crown jewel of the Sai Kung Peninsula and the VRC Clubhouse is blessed to sit high atop at its peak on the waterfront,’ it says on the VRC webite together with a beautiful pristine photo,” the reader wrote.

“Unfortunately last month when they had a landslip, they opted for cheap slope repair and just poured  concrete down the slope.

The result is a major eyesore and environmental issue.”

BUZZ spoke to the club’s GM Sandy Macalister, who said:

“We had a large slip exposing the slope in the torrential rain of October. We had to take emergency action to stop further erosion. Concrete wasn’t poured down it was shotcreted. It’s the first stage of remedial work. There was no other option to stop further collapse of the slope.”

Asked if the Club will have a contractor stabilise the slope properly and have it set up so plants will grow over time greening it — as we see the Government doing elsewhere — Mr Macalister said:

“Hopefully yes. We will take the best advice and do it properly. Do whatever we can to reinstate it. It is a magnificent area and we will do our best.”
