Cary, former Pipe Major of the Royal Hong Kong Auxiliary Police Band, giving Graham a rousing tribute at the wake in Pak Tam Au
At the instigation of Graham “Big G” Eckersley’s sister Liz (stranded by the pandemic in Greece; how dreadful), a Wake was organised for him by Tina Eldridge, his next door neighbour at Pak Tam Au village, with support from old friend Toby Emmett.
The event took place on the evening of Friday 28 May in Graham’s garden and it was well attended by his neighbours and friends from the Sai Kung community who saw him off in style.
Tina organised a piper to give Big G a traditional Scots send-off and the former Pipe Major of the Royal Hong Kong Auxiliary Police Band did him proud, playing mightily on the balcony in full regalia and attired in his splendid Macpherson tartan. Thank you Cary for a stirling demonstration of bagpipery at its finest.
This performance was rewarded in traditional fashion by Guy Shirra who handed Cary a silver quaich of Drambui to quench his thirst, Big G having ensured that all the more appropriate Scotch was nay more.
Note: Big G was so named by his Sai Kung Thursday Lunch Club fellow members to distinguish him from Little G, another Graham and fellow Scot of smaller stature soon to bugger off to Dundee!
