Dogs and goats are being ill-treated at the Christian New Being Fellowship camp in the Sai Kung Country Park. Animal welfare activist Carol Biddell and BUZZ team member Trevor Bailey hiked in to the compound to check on the animals’ condition on Sunday. They found goats in cages barely large enough for them to turn around and dogs also cruelly penned. Some of the dogs are in metal sided cages that will heat up in the summer causing suffering. Two dogs are emaciated, underfed or ill.
“Their so-called ‘Christianity’ does not extend to their animals,” Carol said. “We will make a report to the police and the SPCA about this cruelty. We saw one large fluffy dog confined to a small cage which had perspex sides, the poor thing was panting, even in the cooler morning air.”
Many of the dogs are housed in small cages, while larger pens sit empty. .
The New Being Fellowship is a camp deep in the bush where former drug addicts and jail inmates are taught a better way of life working on a farm and tending to animals and gardens. It would be admirable but for the lack of sensitivity to the needs and comfort of the dogs and goats. You can see the New Being farm by hiking in through the Lady MacLehose Holiday Camp or from the carpark near the barrier to the country park.
