85-year-old woman knocked down by car in Sai Kung; driver arrested

The seven-seater van involved in the incident being towed away by the police

Lunchtime today (11/8) an 85-year-old lady was crossing the road on Chan Man Street in Sai Kung, close to Sai Kung Gardens when a seven-seater van knocked her over. She was injured and sent to hospital by ambulance. The police arrived at the scene to investigate, and arrested a 72-year-old man on suspicion of causing injuries to others due to dangerous driving, and towed the seven seater van involved for inspection. According to video footage of the incident the old lady was slowly crossing the road, having looked for any traffic. It is assumed that the driver of the van did not notice the pedestrian and knocked her down.

In the video that the old lady is wearing a pink top and holding an umbrella as a walking stick. At the time of the incident, she saw that there was no vehicle approaching and started crossing the road. She had just taken a few steps when a dark blue van drove by, and the right side accidentally hit the woman. The woman fell to the ground and the umbrella in her hand was knocked away.
