13 people trapped when their kayaks blown into sea cave; four injured and hospitalised

Sea caves at Basalt Island, Sai Kung

Yesterday afternoon (2/10) seven men and six women were kayaking and snorkelling in the Basalt Island area of ​​Sai Kung. They were blown to a sea cave by strong winds. They were trapped by the high waves and some fell into the sea.

Fortunately none were seriously hurt, although some received bruises and abrasions on their hands and feet. Marine police and a fire boats arrived at the scene, rescued the people and sent them to the marine police base in Sai Kung.

Four were taken to Tseung Kwan O Hospital by ambulance for treatment, and nine were treated locally at the base.
