Three-car collision closes Silverstrand Bay roundabout; one person trapped in car

Yesterday morning (24/8) two private cars and a light goods vehicle were driving along Clear Water Bay Road, Sai Kung towards Clear Water Bay, and were in a collision as they approached the Silverstrand Bay roundabout. The driver of one of the cars was trapped and needed rescuing by emergency services. Two others who were injured in the accident were sent to hospital for treatment. Traffic in the area was disrupted for about an hour.

The two cars and the truck were approaching Silverstrand Bay roundabout around 10:20 am when the private cars slowed down. A truck following them was not able to stop in time and hit the second car causing it to hit the car in front, causing a three-car collision. The collision severely damaged the rear of the first car. The 53-year-old female driver was trapped.

The police and other emergency services arrived at the scene and rescued the lady. She reported dizziness, but did not need to be sent to the hospital. Her male 57-year-old passenger suffered injuries to his hands, and the 27-year old male driver of the other car injuries to his hands and neck. They were both sent to the hospital by ambulance for treatment. The 50-year-old male truck driver was held at the scene to assist in the investigation.

Traffic lanes in the area was disrupted for some time with traffic queues on Clear Water Bay Road, and Ying Yip Road.
