A funeral for long-term resident Clive Peter Anderson will be held on 9 September followed by a wake at the Beach Bar. Clive died in Tseung Kwan O Hospital on 14 August . His wife, Elvie, said she was with son Kirby at Clive’s bedside when “the line on the monitor went flat”.
Elvie described him: “He is a family man. He is a very good man. He is conservative. He is strict.” She said the couple had a very good relationship. Elvie would come home from work at Tala’s hair salon to find wine and nuts waiting and Clive cooking for her.
Clive, originally from Essex, was a well-known and liked man about Sai Kung for more than 20 years. He was quite tall with a big head, strong nose, shock of white hair sticking straight up and a ruddy complexion. “He liked to sun bath, almost every day. Some people called him the lobster,” Elvie joked. Clive liked San Miguel and was a regular at the Beach Bar. He was always affable and friendly with virtually everyone he met.
Elvie said she met Clive in 1995 at a Hong Kong party when she was introduced by her cousin’s husband. They dated and married in the year 2000. Clive and Elvie have a son, Kirby. Clive, a smoker, was just 55 when he died, a few days short of his 56th birthday. He had been working as a part-time teacher several days a week. In his youth, Clive was an operator of heavy machinery like bulldozers. For a time he ran a bar with partners in Spain, Elvie said. Clive recently bought Elvie and her family a house at Imus, Cavite, in the Philippines.
Elvie said she plans to stay in Sai Kung where she has many friends and her job as a Tala’s beauty therapist. Kirby, 18, is working as a kindergarten tutor.
Clive enjoyed swimming and hiking, often with his friends, Karl and Guy. In April, he began suffering from shortness of breath. In May he was rushed from Sai Kung clinic to Tseung Kwan O hospital with very low blood pressure. In June he was transferred to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, then Clive had a week at home. Elvie said on 9 August, Clive collapsed. An ambulance rushed him to TKO hospital. On 14 August with his wife and son at his bedside, Clive passed away at 4:13 pm. Elvie said Clive had Stage 4 terminal lung cancer.
