Body of unidentified snorkeler found floating at Tap Mun

The death toll from swimming accidents around Sai Kung shores continues to mount. Yesterday afternoon (2/9) a group of fishermen found a suspected human-shaped object floating in the sea about 100 metres offshore as they passed by Tap Mun, Sai Kung. They called the police. Marine Police conducted a search of the area and found the body of a man who they suspected of drowning.

The body was transported by helicopter to Eastern District Hospital for emergency treatment after being landed at Wong Shek by the Marine Police, but was confirmed dead on arrival. Local media reports that the deceased was about 30 to 40 years old. At the time he was found he was wearing only shorts. He had snorkelling gear on his body, but had no identification documents. The police are investigating his identity and the cause of the accident. The cause of death will be determined after an autopsy.

The same afternoon a 20-year-old young man was suspected of heat stroke while hiking in Long Ke, Sai Kung together with two male and female friends. A helicopter from the Government Flying Service was called to the scene and took him to the Wan Chai helipad where he was taken by ambulance and transferred to Ruttonjee Hospital for treatment.
