Two-year-old girl hospitalised after being knocked down by car after running into the road in Sai Kung

A car dashcam video is circulating on social platforms that shows a 2-year-old girl being hit by a car in Sai Kung after she dashed into the road without looking. The incident occurred at 3:26 pm yesterday afternoon (23/1) opposite the Sai Kung Swimming Pool. A large number of people were in the area for Lunar New Year events when one of the youngsters jumped up and down on the pavement without telling her parents, and ran out onto the road into the path of a private car. The driver did not manage to stop before hitting her and the girl was knocked into the air, landing 2 to 3 metres away. The incident took just 3 seconds.

Many passers-by screamed in shock when they saw the incident and the girl’s parents immediately ran forward to pick up the girl, and several other citizens rushed forward to help. As for the car dashcam owner, after witnessing the event, he kept shouting “oh my god!” and “they hit the kid!”

Responding to media inquiries, the police stated that the girl suffered a bruise on her forehead and was conscious and sent to Tseung Kwan O Hospital for treatment. The case was classified as “a traffic accident with injuries”. The police continued to point out that the driver of the private car involved had asked the girl’s family members if they needed assistance, but they said no before they drove away.
