Early yesterday morning (1/2), around 3:00 am, an armoured security van loaded with cash, collided with a taxi on Sai Sha Road near Kei Ling Ha San Wai, Sai Kung. Reports say that the driver of the armoured vehicle suddenly lost control and crossed into the opposite traffic lane, hitting a taxi heading towards Sai Kung. Due to the strong impact, the right hand side of the taxi’s body was crushed, and the outer shell of the driver’s door was “torn away”. The taxi driver and the male passenger were slightly injured; a male staff member in the armoured vehicle was also injured. Three people were sent to the Prince of Wales Hospital in Shatin by ambulance for treatment.
Owing to the amount of cash involved, armed police arrived after receiving the report. The police officers were on guard wearing bulletproof vests and holding MP5 submachine guns. Later, the security company sent another vehicle to offload the money from the damaged vehicle to the new one. Security company staff were also armed with shotguns.
The glass of the taxi was shattered with the front seat covered with broken glass, and a box of spilled chicken feet was seen on the floor of the back seat, along with a bottle of tea on the seat.
