Yesterday morning (14/4), a feral cow fell into a drainage ditch adjacent to a house in Kei Ling Ha San Wai village, Sai Kung. She had earlier got tangled in the fence surrounding the property and fell down in a pothole unable to escape, with the fence was smashed through.
The cow was an adult female with head, back and foot injuries. It is assumed that it was running around in the grass on the hillside and accidentally fell into the ditch outside the house.
Another younger cow stayed with the victim and refused to leave. The resident of the village house heard the noise, saw the problem and called the police for help. After firefighters and personnel from the Agricultural, Fisheries and Conservation Department arrived at the scene, they tied ropes to the cattle’s limbs. About 10 personnel worked together to pull it out of the hole and hand it over to a veterinarian for inspection.
AFCD later stated that it received a report from the public in the morning that a cow was injured and trapped in the San Wai area of Kei Ling Ha, Sai Kung. The Department sent officers to inspect the scene and found an adult cow lying on the ground, unable to stand up. Officers then took the cow back to the Ta Kwu Ling Operation Centre of the AFCD. After being examined by the Department’s veterinarian, the cow was found to be in good health and able to stand on its own, but had scratches on its head and body. It is currently receiving treatment and observation at the Centre.
