A 59-year-old man drowned while cruising near Tiu Chung Chau (Jin Island), Sai Kung yesterday afternoon (11/6). He was rescued with the help of his shipmates, and was airlifted to hospital after receiving first aid on the spot. He was finally confirmed dead at 4:08 pm. Police are investigating the incident.
According to media sources, the victim and 25 friends rented a boat from Sai Kung Pier to Shelter Island at 9:00 am. At around 2:30 pm, they arrived at the southern part of Tiu Chung Chau. The victim and several friends jumped into the sea for a swim, but he disappeared during the session. His friends searched and found that he had drowned and was unconscious. They managed to rescue him and called the police. One of the friends who was a nurse also assisted in giving first aid on the scene. Emergency services took him by helicopter to hospital, but unfortunately he was confirmed dead after arrival.
