Mainland professor drowns off Bluff Island, Sai Kung while conducting environmental inspection

A 51-year-old mainland man drowned while swimming yesterday (13/6) in the sea off Ung Kong Wan, Bluff Island, Sai Kung. He was rescued by a friend and carried to the shore. A helicopter flew the victim to the hospital for emergency treatment. Unfortunately, he died after arrival. It is reported that the deceased man was a professor of a research institute of a university in the Mainland. He came to Hong Kong with an exchange group and was on an environmental inspection trip.

This morning, three colleagues from the research institute to which the deceased belonged, accompanied by police officers, arrived at the Western District Mortuary to identify the body. It is understood that the victim went out to sea with members of the exchange group yesterday and arrived at Ung Kong Wan at about 11:00 am. The victim fell into the water and was found drowned after a short search. The cause of death is yet to be determined after an autopsy.
