The lady who is arguably Sai Kung’s most accomplished charity leader, Kay Rawbone, has been awarded the British Empire Medal by King Charles III. The announcement came in the King’s Birthday Honours List. The citation said the BEM award is “for services to inclusive sailing in Hong Kong”.

As co-founder and chief executive of Sailability Hong Kong, Kay, her late husband Mike* and their team of volunteers have given thousands of disabled people sailing experiences with their fleet based at Hebe Haven Yacht Club. Sailability is Sai Kung’s finest homegrown charity and is 90 per cent volunteer led and entirely dependent on donations. If you wish to help as donor or volunteer visit the Sailability website for details.

The British Empire Medal, created in 1922, is awarded “for meritorious civil or military service worthy of recognition by the Crown”.
