Bluff Island, Sai Kung
The death toll from fatal drownings in Sai Kung waters continues to rise. Within one hour yesterday (25/7), two people drowned while enjoying water sports.
A 63-year-old old man was in Tai Wong Lan was on a boat cruise with his friends when he was got into difficulties whilst swimming around 11:00 am. The people on the boat took him to the beach and called the police.
A Government Flying Service helicopter took the victim to the Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital for emergency treatment, but unfortunately he died later.
About an hour later, at around 12:00 noon, a middle-aged man drowned when he fell into the water while stand-up paddling near Bluff Island, Sai Kung. He was rescued by the people present who called the police for help.
He was recovered by a marine police vessel and airlifted from a marine police base to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital, where he was declared dead.
Police are investigating both incidents.
