Sai Kung cultural youth restaurant Bakso will close in mid-August

Many small shops in Sai Kung District have closed down recently, especially food and beverage outlets. The “Bakso Flagship Store” opened by four young people in 2018 suddenly announced that it is facing closure. It said that the owner of the rented shop needs to take it back and has decided not to renew the lease. It is expected to close in mid-August.

Bakso provided space for filmmakers to hold screenings

Bakso is located at 9 Wan King Path, Sai Kung. It is known as an Indonesian restaurant with a number of signature dishes, among them, the beef bone soup rice is the most popular. The founders first opened a New Year’s Eve stall in Sham Shui Po in February 2017. The Store did not open its current location until November 2018. In addition to being a restaurant, it also provides space for filmmakers to hold screenings and young pastry makers to sell cakes on consignment. It has become a gathering place for younger Sai Kungers.

After operating for seven years, Bakso announced recently on social media that it is facing closure. They received a notice from the owner about 10 days ago that they had another business development and needed to take back the shop. The lease will not be renewed. It is expected to be handed over in mid-August, but for the time being the exact completion date is still unclear.

The Bakso statement also said, “Although we don’t know where Bakso’s next chapter will be, we firmly believe that everything happens for a reason. There must be a reason for what happened this time. There may be something we need to learn, and it may be a new opportunity. Changing the current situation may require us to accept other challenges. We will definitely find a way to continue to serve the community.”
