School bus and Tesla in Sai Kung crash; traffic chaos for hours

A traffic accident occurred on Hiram’s Highway around 4:00 pm this afternoon (18/3), when a school bus and a Telsa car, travelling along Hiram’s Highway collided near the Fire Station. The male driver of the car was initially trapped but was later rescued by firefighters; he sustained minor hand injuries. The 15 schoolchildren on the bus were unharmed and were taken to a safe location to await further assistance.

Online images show the tour bus and the Tesla collided head-on. The Tesla was wedged into the right front of the school bus, while a private car came to a stop at an angle in front of the tour bus. The tour bus sustained severe damage, with glass shards scattered everywhere. Paramedics and firefighters were on the scene providing assistance. Police are investigating the cause of the accident.

The Transport Department stated that due to a traffic accident, Hiram’s Highway near Hong Kin Road was temporarily closed in both directions, and was subsequently converted to a single-lane two-way traffic measure. Services of KMB route 92, Citybus route 792M, and red and green minibus routes were affected, and traffic congestion continued for a couple of hours. The traffic jam heading from Kowloon to Sai Kung stretched for over 4 kilometres.
