I visited Sai Kung on 1 May 2026 to follow up my previous visits concerning the fire safety of the five-storey buildings in the town. The following notice was affixed in the staircases of the five-storey buildings in Man Yee Wan New Village and Sha Tsui New Village (Man Nin Street, Yi Chun Street, Wan King Path and Sha Tsui Path) in relation to the fire safety improvement:
- In relation to the fire safety directions issued by the Buildings Department and the Fire Services Department, the representatives of the villages conducted meetings with these government departments in February and on 14 April 2026.
- After discussion, it is decided to apply for the deferment of the fire safety improvement works by submitting an application letter on behalf of the villages.
- Building owners do not need to worry about the penalty now due to the failure to improve fire safety before the deadline.
- Building owners were invited to the special general meeting at Man Yee Wan Recreation Centre at 2:00 pm on 1 May 2026 for reporting and discussion of the affairs in Cantonese.
Readers should also take note of the registered fire engineer scheme (RFE) of the Fire Services Department and seek advice or assistance from an RFE or the Building Improvement Support Centre of the Fire Services Department if necessary.
