Sai Kung snake-catcher extraordinaire Dave Willott tells BUZZ about a recent sad encounter.
I was recently called to capture 4.5 metre python from Shek Pak Terrace, Clearwater Bay, Sai Kung. It turned into a rather sad situation.
The python looks rather skinny, possible a female which has spent the last 3 months sitting (incubating her 50 or more eggs) on her eggs and and was in need of a good meal (pythons don’t eat when they are on eggs). Not only has the snake missed an important meal and the deer died for nowt, but she looks like she has left behind a fawn. Such a waste 😔
On a more positive note staff from Kadoorie Farm and Biological Garden went and searched the area to see if they could find the baby deer. They said they will check inside python! But I don’t think the python did eat it. KGBG staff talked to some workers nearby and asked them to keep an eyes and ears open.
Sometimes I hate my job.
