Five mainlanders suspected to have been behind a spate of burglaries in Sai Kung district will appear in Kwun Tong Court on 4 September. Senior Inspector Jacky Chan said no pleas have been taken, but as the suspects have been in jail since 21 July they have to appear before a magistrate. Jacky said the trial will be in district court in about six months.

The burglaries even occurred in a house owned by the Chairman of the Sai Kung Fight Crime Committee, Chan Kuen-kwun. His 25-year-old daughter lives in one of two residences KK owns on Tai Mong Tsai Road. Cash and property worth $250,000 were reported to have been stolen. CCTV footage showed three males leaving the house at about 8:00 pm. They had entered by smashing a window.

Other homes believed to have been hit by the same gang:

  •  two neighbouring houses near Sheung Yeung village;
  •  a property at Phoenix Palm Villa, Lung Mei;
  •  one at Tai Lam Wu;
  •  two at Tseng Lan Shue;
  •  and two near Fei Ngo Shan and Bay View.

If burglars can be described as prolific this lot allegedly qualifies. Sai Kung’s 34-year-old divisional commander, Chief Inspector Daniel Tsang, said he hopes the arrests of 21 July  near Hang Hau had broken the syndicate, but he could not be sure.
