The government plans to apply for funding from the Finance Committee of the Legislative Council in the middle of the year to build nearly 3,500 public housing units in Cheung Mak Tau, Sai Kung North, which are expected to accommodate more than 9,500 residents. The project will be completed by 2030 at the earliest.

The authorities submitted the latest discussion paper to the Panel on Housing of the Legislative Council on 27 February, introducing the latest public housing development project plan. The total project cost is HK$623.4 million. The project is developed at a plot ratio of 6.8 times and can provide 3,500 public housing units; however, according to the documents they show that the site is divided into two to enclose the existing Cheung Muk Tau Village, and it is expected that the project will have a certain impact on the area.

Since the project can accommodate about 9,750 residents, the new population may put pressure on the adjacent Wu Kai Sha MTR station and road traffic.
