Five burglary cases in Sai Kung have been solved by detectives and an illegal immigrant from Guangdong believed responsible arrested. Senior Inspector Jacky Chan said the cases occurred in Ho Chung (2), Ta Ho Tun, Tui Min Hoi and Marina Cove.
There has been an upsurge in rural burglaries since the middle of last month, Jacky said. Detectives from Kowloon East (regional headquarters for our district) have comprehensively analysed each case. They identified a number of habitual burglars.
On 16 November, police raided a property and arrested the Guangdong male and two local females, 37 and 45 years of age. The man is believed to have been involved in more than 20 burglaries, territory-wide, including those in Sai Kung. Stolen property, including cash and jewellery, was recovered.
The women are believed to be fences, who handled the loot and in some cases pawned it. They have been released on police bail, Jacky said.
He issued these messages to residents:
- Lock doors and windows when sleeping. In most of the above cases entry was gained by climbing through an unsecured window.
- Detachable mosquito nets cannot prevent thieves breaking in.
- Secure valuables in safes or locked drawers.
- Keep dogs and fit alarms.
- Dial 999 if you see someone suspicious and “let our guys do the rest”.
